Meet the Board Member: Dr. Elliot Frank
Each month, we’re spotlighting a member of the Division team to help foster connection and build a stronger understanding of the people and roles that support our collective work.
This month, we’re pleased to introduce Dr. Elliot Frank, who currently serves on the Central Okanagan Division’s Board of Directors.
What’s your area of specialty or interest in practice?
Elliot: Youth mental health, women's health, general family practice
What inspired you to join the Division’s Board of Directors?
Eliot: I was feeling disconnected from my colleagues practicing family medicine in the region. At the same time, there are so many larger issues facing patients and doctors in trying to access the care that is, and often is not, available. I wanted to see if I could make a difference in the delivery of high quality care to Kelowna.
What’s one thing you’ve learned or valued from being on the board so far?
Elliot: Things are complicated. Systems are complicated and have lots of moving parts. To come up with workable solutions, the timeframe must span several years and involve several partners. Almost nothing in our health system is a "simple fix".
What's one thing people might be surprised to learn about you? It could be a fun fact or something that’s shaped you outside of your Board role.
Elliot: One of my passions is urban foraging - identifying and eating lots of plants and foods on the way to work or to the park. I am so proud that I get to share this passion with my children.
What’s one hope you have for the future of family medicine in the Central Okanagan?
Elliot: I hope that the patients who need care are able to access it. It's a lofty goal right now but it's what motivates the entire Division’s Board to do the work that we do.
